The Dream Award

Scholarships are an excellent way to reduce college costs. Many scholarships are based on your academic record, extracurricular activities and work experience, or financial need. But it’s essential that you do your research and search for scholarships tailored specifically towards your interests or hobbies. For instance, if you are a first-generation student or planning on studying STEM fields, consider searching for scholarships that focus on these specific areas.

Scholarship America offers The Dream Award, a program that awards scholarships to students who have overcome hardship in order to reach their educational objectives. This scholarship is renewable, meaning the amount awarded grows annually, helping you stay on track toward graduation.

Mara Land of Dell Rapids, South Dakota is one of the lucky recipients of this award. She plans to attend Gallaudet University to study communication studies and was awarded $2,500 through Scholarship America – a company that provides private scholarships for students.

She will receive her scholarship during a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on June 16. The Dream Award program of Scholarship America recognizes students who have overcome obstacles to pursue their aspirations and aspirations.

At 17 years of age, applicants must have completed at least one year of college, trade or technical school and be either a U.S. citizen, permanent resident (holding a permanent resident card), or individuals granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA).

Applications for this award open August 1 and close November 15. Recipients are selected based on their academic record, leadership in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals/aspiration and unusual personal or family circumstances that demonstrate they have overcome barriers to success.

Students interested in applying for this award must fill out an online application and include an essay about their personal dreams. A selection committee will then review all applications and select the recipients.

Dollars for Scholars

Dollars for Scholars is the nation’s largest grassroots scholarship program, encouraging students to reach their aspirations by drawing on the strength of their local community. Since its inception in 2008, this initiative has provided support and opportunity to thousands of students nationwide.

Dollars for Scholars is the inaugural program in Scholarship America’s network. This non-profit educational service connects wealthy donors with state chapters and high schools to offer auxiliary scholarships that may not be accessible through traditional financial aid options. These community-based awards help students from underserved backgrounds realize their college dreams by providing access to additional college funding sources.

Dollars for Scholars, previously known as Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation of Temecula Valley, has awarded over $2.7 million in scholarships since 1991. Its board of trustees consists of volunteer selection committee members who select award recipients.

Dollars for Scholars (DFS) chapters across America work to empower postsecondary education success for local students by raising scholarship funds, creating endowments and awarding annual scholarships. Through DFS chapters, local volunteer-driven initiatives bring together business, government and education institutions in an effort to make higher education more accessible and affordable for local students.

Each year, they provide services to over 350 students in Southeast Michigan through 13 schools located throughout Macomb, Monroe, Oakland and Washtenaw counties.

Donors to the organization include businesses, foundations, local sports clubs and community service organizations. Some donations are memorial scholarships while others are awarded based on merit.

To be eligible for need-based scholarships, students must provide financial information on their profile and complete an essay outlining their plans as they relate to educational and career objectives. Be sure to check with your local DFS affiliate website for the length requirements for this essay.

The next step is to create an online student profile in the Dollars for Scholars Student Center. From there, you can access all scholarship opportunities managed by your local affiliate as well as national ones.

The program provides various services to students and their parents, such as college counseling, tutoring and internships. Its primary goal is helping families comprehend the financial burden of a college education while aiding students in receiving assistance for those costs. Furthermore, it emphasizes the value of saving money for education while helping them make informed decisions regarding student loans.

Collegiate Partners

The Collegiate Partners program is an impressive example of scholarship management, one that should be replicated by higher education institutions across the nation. Recent members include the University of Maryland, Virginia Tech and West Virginia State University. It’s an ideal time to join the CP network – especially with its low fee!
