Locals of Suweida province celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Independence Day as the French evacuated forces from Syria, on Monday, the seventeenth of April, where several demonstrations erupted in the city of Suweida and the town of al-Mazra’a in the province raising slogans against the Syrian regime.

The demonstrators called for the overthrow of the regime, the preservation of the unity of Syrian territory and the unity of the Syrian people. They also echoed a popular slogan: "Syria lived, Bashar al-Assad fell, Syria is ours but not owned to the Assad’s."

The demonstrators chanted slogans like "Jaba’s locals defeat Daesh and Assad forever" referring to Mount Arab, and the demonstrators rejected any process of division of Syria and converted the state into sectarian countries, and stressed that "Assad" lost legitimacy.

Sultan Pasha al-Atrash, who led the Syrian revolution in 1925 against French occupation, came from the province of Suwayda.
