Algeria rejects US bombing of the Syrian regime

Algeria confirmed on Sunday its rejection of the American strike that targeted the military airbase of (Shayarat) in Homs on Friday morning, which led to the destruction of most airfield.

"Any military escalation would only undermine the efforts of the international community as part of the efforts to reach a political settlement to the Syrian crisis and within the framework of respect for international legitimacy" Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Massahel said.

He added that the Syrian file "will only be settled through a political solution based on dialogue" noting that Algeria "closely follows the situation at a time when a dynamic is achieved aimed at finding a negotiated political solution between all the Syrian parties."

On Friday, the United States launched dozens of Tomahawk missiles fired from two US destroyers in the eastern Mediterranean, targeted the military air base of Shayrat and destroyed at least 14 Sukhoi warplanes, killing six servicemen  and a General Brigadier; the forces ordered the evacuation of the base before the strike.
