Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Tuesday that his country allows the Russian air force to use its airports to bomb targets in Syria.

The Russians have huge warplanes capable of carrying dozens of rockets, and need to take off from long distances for their maneuverability. The Russian side has already announced its use of the Iranian air base "Homsan" to hit targets in Syria. Both sides expressed their readiness to repeat the experience.

Zarif said Tuesday that Russia could use its military bases "to combat terrorism in Syria" on the sidelines of a visit of an Iranian delegation including President Hassan Rowhani to Moscow, with each case being "separate", adding that regional issues including the Syrian issue will be discussed in today's meeting in the Kremlin.

The Iranian delegation includes President Hassan Rowhani arrived in Moscow on Monday for a two-day visit, which is scheduled to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, and the signing of a number of bilateral documents after the talks, one related to the Iranian-Russian agreement on the cancellation of visas for tourism groups between the two countries, and strengthen relations between them.
